Gallaudet University`s mission is to provide educational services of the highest quality. Gallaudet`s bilingual mission supports access to communication for deafblind, deaf and hard of hearing students when pursuing university studies at Gallaudet when needed. The majority language for communication in academic and public settings is American Sign Language (ASL), and Gallaudet students are expected to be or become proficient in ASL and English as part of their educational goals. Requests for instruction for communications access services for students using tactile or near-vision interpretation services are directed directly to gallaudet Interpretation Service (GIS) in gis.db@gallaudet.edu. For students enrolled in the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSWD), please also visit the OSWD website. Requests for teaching access to communication services for students who are not yet proficient in ASL are addressed to pedagogical advisors (departmental advisors or pedagogical advisors). The full text of the policies and procedures can be found in the Access to Communications Policy on Academic Affairs.
